Summary

A possible post-medieval to 19th century extractive pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1948, to the southwest of George Nympton. Earthworks of a pit feature are also shown in this location on both the First and Second Edition Ordnance Survey maps.

An oval hollow 16m x 40m is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs (p1). It is marked as a hollow, but not annotated, on OS 1st and 2nd Edition 1:2500 mapping. This feature is likely to be the remains of a small quarry. It has been digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme.
