Summary
Row of six small cottages, built in two phases. Numbers 4-6 are the oldest (possibly 17th century), while numbers 1-3 are newer (but still pre-1843). Depicted on the Tithe Map, they were getted and renovated after the Second World War but are thought to retain some old features.

Full description

Shown on the 1843 Tithe Map and listed in the Apportionment as cottages.

The late 19th century historic map does not show all of the subdivisions; only three properties appear to be shown.

Brent Mill Cottages 'Beacon View' nos 1-6 SX6986 5965
This range of six attached cottages runs from the south-west end of 'Clarence House' in a curve. According to local information (personal comment), numbers 1-3 are more recent and were still referred to as 'new cottages' by one of the present cottage owner's father, although they are present on the 1843 Tithe Map. The rest; 4-6 are far older.
They were completely gutted and renovated soon after the Second World War (1939-45) and during the operation were found to have many old features e.g.: small window alcoves.
Number 6 has an external chimney stack on the back wall whose proportions also support an early date; perhaps 17th century.
Number 5 has what seems to be an external buttress on the east side.
The whole range is stone built and rendered with a single span slate roof. Doors and windows appear to be modern replacements. The south gable end of Number 1 is slate hung.
