Summary

Cross shaft stands against the outside wall, under the main east window of the church. A tapering cross shaft with a dowel hole near its top, it is rectangular in section with chamfered edges. May be the cross shaft from Shobrooke Barton (MDV591), although Watson also mentions a preaching cross noted in 1843 as being in the churchyard.

Shobrooke Churchyard SS862011
A cross shaft stands against the outside wall, under the main east window of the church. A tapering cross shaft with a dowel hole near its top, it is rectangular in section with chamfered edges. In 1959 this shaft stood in the farmyard of Shobrooke Barton, leaning against an outhouse. A socket stone (now missing) was also noted near the shaft.
A preaching cross was recorded as standing in the churchyard in 1843. This has since disappeared and Watson suggests this cross shaft probably belonged to the churchyard cross.
Cross shaft height 0.86 metres, 0.73 metres above the turf. Base 0.30 by 0.22 metres, top 0.27 by 0.22 metres.
