SX69736017 No. 26 Church Street
Nos. 24, 26 and 28 share a single span slate roof with an axis parallel to the street. They are stone built and rendered, with sash windows. They are lower than the building to the east (No. 23) and appear much older. There is a through way between Nos. 26 and 28 leading to a court at the back. This is bounded to the north and west by buildings designated as ‘stables’ on the Tithe Map and Apportionment. Windows fronting the street are fairly old sash windows but the doors are modern.
To the east of the alleyway the west wall of No. 26 can be seen to be timber framed with stone infilling. The timbering is on a rectangular grid and is of small scantling.
At the north-west corner of No. 26 is a square stone chimney of early appearance. The wall below is irregular suggesting an interesting fireplace. There is a room over the alleyway.
No. 26 is said to have been a butchers shop and No. 27 the slaughterhouse. Apparently the Old Bakehouse served as a grocers shop, kept by the brother of the butcher (personal comment from occupant of the Old Bakehouse).

Depicted on the modern mapping.
