Summary

Cross erected in garden, north-east of the house. The granite cross is roughly rectangular in section and has short arms and head. Original location unknown, this cross was acquired via auction around 1999; it had been in use as a gatepost of Higher Fawton Farm near St Neot before being auctioned inn 1989 with a number of other granite gateposts.

East Hartley SX809524
In 1999, a Latin cross was first noticed in a farm sale at Lifton; at the time it was not known where the cross originated (the auctioneer suggested that it came from near Launceston). The cross has previously been used as a gatepost and still displayed iron gate hangings on the shaft. It had been auctioned in 1989 with a number of granite gateposts. The cross was purchased for use as a garden feature, and removed to East Hartley, north-east of Blackawton.
The granite cross is roughly rectangular in section and has short arms and head. It has been erected in the sunken garden north-east of East Hartley house (the gate hangings have been removed).
The cross has been traced back to St Neot, where it served as a gatepost on Higher Fawton Farm until 1989.
Cross height 1.57 metres (plus 0.40 metres buried), span 0.45 metres.
