Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.
The early 20th century historic map shows the station building with platform shelter section for passengers at the front.
Bastin, C. H., 1989, Princetown Railways, 31-2 (Pamphlet). SDV252923.
The main station passenger building at Princetown contained a booking hall, and general waiting room, a parcels office, booking office and ladies room. Built from rendered stone, with a slate roof.
Author states that one of the chimneys of the passenger building disappeared ('almost overnight') in 1947, at the same time as some minor alterations to the inside of the building.
N.B.: this date cannot currently be verified (Richards, A. F., 19/06/2018).
Kingdom, A. R., 1991, The Yelverton to Princetown Railway, 35-37, 50, 70 (Monograph). SDV361466.
The station building was rectangular, constructed from brick and rendered in cement. The corners of the walls, the windows and door surrounds were decorated with a castellation design similar to Dousland. There were some ten windows and three doors along the platform side of the building, catering for all the usual office functions. A single door and window were at each end of the building.
The apex roof was of slate, edged with blue Staffordshire ridge tiles at one end and zinc plating at the other. Two elegant limestone chimney stacks set of the finish of the roof, one near the centre and one at the eastern end. There is evidence of much change to the roof as early photographs show three chimney stacks and older slating.
A spacious canopy, edged with a skirt of vertical planking of various lengths and cut to a saw tooth pattern, stretched to the platform edge from the centre section of the building. The ends of the canopy were equipped with large wooden screens, erected halfway towards the platform edge from the front wall of the building. These were to shield the Waiting Rooms and Ticket Office from severe weather conditions.
Images of the station building of various dates. One dated to around the turn of the century (and shows the construction of houses to the rear of the station building) shows the structure on the platform with its original 3 chimneys (page 70). Other images (one dated 1908, the other thought to date to around 1900) show the third chimney (at the western end), has been removed by this time (page 50).
