A small pit circa 4 metres in diameter is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 as an earthwork on the east-facing slopes east of Kenton Hill Covert, Kenton. Small spoil mounds can be seen flanking the pit. Numerous ponds, probably originally dug as extractive pits, are depicted on the slopes to the west on the Ordnance Survey Second Edition map of 1904-6. The visible earthwork does not correspond with any depicted pit and was possibly excavated for similar reasons in the early 20th century. The location of the pit is obscured by dense tree cover on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2016.
