The visible earthworks correspond closely with buildings and garden plots depicted on the Tithe map for Kenton.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The visible earthworks do not correspond with any buildings or plots depicted on the OS 1888 First Edition map.

Royal Air Force, 1946, RAF/CPE/UK/1823, RAF/CPE/UK/1823 RP 3016-3017 04-NOV-1946 (Aerial Photograph). SDV354994.

Earthwork mounds and hollows are visible.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (AI&M) (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Oval and rectilinear mounds are visible on aerial photographs of 1946 as earthworks set within hollows, immediately to the south of Sampsons, Kenton. The visible earthworks correspond closely with structures and garden plots depicted on the Tithe Map for Kenton but not the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch. This may be evidence that the settlement at Sampsons contracted to its current size between circa 1840 and 1880.
It is possible that the mounds within the garden plots shown on the Tithe map are evidence that the contraction of the settlement had begun prior to the 1840s.

Devon County Council, 2019, Google Earth Aerial Photograph Pilot Project, GE78 (Aerial Photograph). SDV363341.

(SX 94243 84615) Enclosures east of Willsworthy Farm. Enclosure MDV122500 and a further enclosure east of the farm visible on the 2018 Google Earth aerial photograph. Bronze Age to Romano-British in date.
