The remains of parallel earthwork ridges were visible as earthworks under tree cover on aerial photographs of 1946, to the east of Oak Down, Ashton. The closely spaced banks are spaced on average 5 metres wide and cover the small triangular plot of circa 0.1 hectares, crossing the north-east facing slopes of the combe.
The plot in which the banks are visible is not depicted as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Kenn but is shown as such on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch first edition map. The banks were therefore probably created between circa 1840 and 1880 and are interpreted as earthworks made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within the orchard. The plot remains densely planted.
