Summary
A curvilinear earthwork ditch, visible on aerial photographs taken from 1946 onwards and part-visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, corresponds to a water channel depicted on late-19th century mapping. It is tentatively interpreted as the remains of a post-medieval or early-19th century mill race.

A curvilinear earthwork ditch, circa 3.5 metres wide, is visible on aerial photographs taken from 1946 onwards and is part-visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. It corresponds to a water channel with sluice depicted on late-19th century mapping, which runs northwards then appears to divert sharply east to join the river. It is possible that it was associated with nearby Gages Mill (MDV7844) and later diverted, or given its elevation, to an earlier mill building downslope. It may be an earlier iteration of the longer channel downslope that is named as a Mill Leat on the late-19th century mapping.
