Parallel earthwork ridges were visible under light tree cover on aerial photographs of 1946, on the north-east facing slopes south of Huxbear House, Hennock. The closely spaced banks are on average 6 metres wide and are aligned obliquely cross-contour. They are interpreted as banks made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within an orchard.
The plot in which the banks are visible is depicted as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Hennock (Plot 327, Kiln Plot Orchard) and the Ordnance Survey 25-inch first edition map. The banks were therefore probably created prior to circa 1840. The plot remained lightly planted in 1964 but the banks were not visible as earthworks on images derived from aerial photographs of 2015 and have probably been levelled.
