Parallel earthwork ridges were visible under moderate tree cover on aerial photographs of 1946 and 1964, over a small plot less than 0.1 hectares in area, on the lower east facing slopes of the Teign valley, east of Lyneham Cross, Hennock. The closely spaced banks are on average 7 metres wide and are aligned cross-contour. They are interpreted as banks made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within an orchard.
The plot in which the banks are visible is depicted as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Hennock (Plot 302, Lower Orchard) and the Ordnance Survey 25-inch First Edition map. The banks were therefore probably created prior to circa 1840. The plot and banks had been cleared and levelled on images derived from aerial photographs of 2015.
