Parallel earthwork ridges were visible under moderate tree cover on aerial photographs of 1930, over circa 0.2 hectares of a plot to the south-east of Culver House, south-east of New Exeter Street, Chudleigh. The closely spaced banks are on average 5 metres wide and are aligned cross-contour. They are interpreted as banks made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within an orchard.
The plot in which the banks are visible is listed as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Chudleigh (Plot 1064, Orchard) and on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch First Edition map, one of many in the burgage plots of Chudleigh at this time. The banks were therefore probably created prior to circa 1840.
The plot was cleared of trees by the 1940s and was subsequently developed for housing by the 1990s, the banks probably levelled. The plot has since been redeveloped and all traces of the banks have probably consequently been destroyed.
