Parallel earthwork ridges were visible under moderate tree cover on aerial photographs of 1946, as earthwork banks to the south of Palace Farm, Chudleigh. The banks are more clearly visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 and aerial photographs of 2015, following the removal of tree cover.
The surviving banks cover circa 0.3 hectares and the closely spaced banks are on average 6 metres wide and are aligned cross-contour.
The plot in which the banks are visible is depicted as an orchard on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch First Edition map and the banks are interpreted as banks made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within an orchard.
