Reichel, O. J., 1928 - 1938, The Hundred of Tiverton in Early Times, 5, 14, 22, 30 (Article in Monograph). SDV35420.

An associated manor is probably that of East Chevithorn, the Domesday Cheveorna. History of descents given up to 1428.

A gabled, medium-sized Elizabethan manor house with a porch.

Late 16th or early 17th century seat of the Fraunceis and Prideaux families. Multi-gabled stone front, mullioned windows. Considerable restoration externally.

Mainly a Tudor house.

A good example of a small manor house of about 1600. Probably built by John Francis who is documented at Chevithorne in 1623. The main block faces south with a large wing at the east end and a smaller wing at the west end. The western part was originally servant's quarters and was remodelled in the 19th century. The hall in the main block is single storey and retains its original windows and fireplace. The solar in the east wing also retains its original fireplace, panelling and plaster ceiling.

Chevithorne Barton is a gabled, medium sized Elizabethan manor house (citing Pevsner 1952, 69; Hoskins 1954, 497).

Moulded elements of parlour panelliing carved out of the solid rather than the applied, a technique also seen at The Walronds, Cullompton.
