Full description
Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1931, The Place-Names of Devon: Part One, 141 (Monograph). SDV1312.
Halwill takes its name from a holy well which still exists with the ruins of a chapel by it.
Ordnance Survey, 1978, SS40SW9, SS40SW 9 (Site Visit). SDV20924.
No remains of either well or chapel. A natural spring at SS43790012, and a local tradition of both well and chapel.
