Two small pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1969, in the cleared plot of Durley Wood. The pits are up to 20m long and 5m wide. They do not match any features depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey and fall in the area of Durley Wood. The plot is listed as Plot 732, Vesover Coppice on the Tithe Apportionment for Kingsteignton.
The pits therefore probably predate the woodland, and are interpreted as extractive pits, probably gravel pits, of probable post-medieval to 19th century date.
