Earthworks of two irregularly shaped pits, circa 10 metres and 30 metres long, and a curvilinear bank, circa 3 metres wide, are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2010.
The earthworks do not correspond with any features in this location on the late-19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map, which shows this area as comprising woodland of Morwelldown Plantation.
They are therefore interpreted as possible post-medieval or early to mid-19th century extractive pits and associated spoil heap that had probably passed out of use by the mid to late-19th century.
The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover of Morwelldown Plantation.
