Full description

The ditch does not correspond with any depicted features, however it aligns with an adjacent depicted field boundary.

A curvilinear ditch between circa 6 and 8 metres in width and forming a right-angle is visible as an earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019. The ditch is situated on a north-west facing slope on the edge of Blaxton Wood.
The ditch does not correspond with any features depicted on the available historic maps, however it aligns with an adjacent field boundary. The historic landscape is characterised as ‘ancient woodland’. Curving banks forming a medieval field system is recorded to the south-west (MDV130679).
The ditch is interpreted as a field boundary of post-medieval origin, that may have formed part of the corner of the adjacent field, turned over to woodland by the mid-19th century.
