The banks are orientated approximately northwest to southeast and circa 4m apart. They are situated in the south part of 'Long Orchard' recorded on the Tithe Map. The plot is depicted as an orchard on historic and modern maps until the mid-20th century. The banks are interpreted as planting ridges for orchard trees of post-medieval to 19th century origin, that passed out of use in the mid-20th century.
