The banks are situated in the northern part of a plot recorded as 'Bottom Orchard' on the Tithe Map and depicted as an orchard on the First Edition OS map through to mid-20th century maps. The banks are interpreted as planting ridges for orchard trees of post-medieval to 19th century origin, that passed out of use by the mid to late-20th century.
