The earthwork depression corresponds with an irregular shaped field boundary to a plot recorded as 'Water Lake'.

An irregular shaped earthwork depression circa 75m by 65m is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. Part of the irregular shape of the depression appears to be reflected by the irregular shaped south-eastern field boundary of a plot recorded as 'Water Lake' in the Tithe Survey (MDV116165). By the First Edition OS map, the field boundary has been altered, and the depression partially corresponds with depicted earthworks and is depicted as an orchard. The earthworks are depicted on the Second Edition OS map, but the orchard has passed out of use. Earthworks are depicted on subsequent modern maps.
The depression is interpreted as an extractive pit, at least part of which pre-dates circa 1840, that was partially used as an orchard from the mid to late 19th century until the early 20th century. It is possible the extractive pit may have functioned as a large pond in the post-medieval to 19th century period, giving the adjacent field its name.
