(House assessed November 2021) The form of the house indicates it is likely to date from the 16th or 17th century, but could be older. Two fireplaces with bread ovens are indicated on the plans of planning application 0531/21. The second edition OS suggests the house was split into two cottages at that time. The interior has not been inspected.
At the time of the tithe apportionment (1844) the current house and outbuildings were described as ‘buildings and yard’, and the land to the east was noted as garden. It formed part of the Estate called ‘Hollands & Oxenhams Addiscott’ and was owned and occupied by George Knapman.
Western boundary wall appears to form the former wall of a broadly north south range of farm buildings shown on the Tithe Map c.1840 and on the first edition OS. They are partially removed by the second edition OS and the eastern north south range is missing. It is not clear if the eastern range has been demolished, or are just missing from the map, the range is certainly present in 1946 aerial photographs.
