The banks are situated within a plot recorded as 'Home Orchard' on the Tithe Map and depicted as an orchard on the First and Second Edition OS maps. The banks are visible along with some remaining trees on aerial photographs dating from the 1940s. The banks are interpreted as planting ridges for orchard trees of post-medieval to 19th century origin, that passed out of use by the mid-20th century.
