Name: | Tinner's reservoir on southern slope of Thornworthy Down |
---|
Summary
A small tinner's reservoir on the moderate S slope of Thornworthy Down. It lies at the head of a small openwork (SX 68 SE 174) that branches off an extensively worked area flanking the Crown Hall Stream. This feature is Sub-circular and measures 10.9m NW-SE by 8.1m. It is cut into the slope by 1.3m on the NE side and bounded by a wide turf and stone bank 1.4m high on the SW margin. A gap in the SW side probably contained the sluice that controlled the flow of water into the workings.
Two leats (SX 68 NE 157 and SX 68 SE 171) formerly supplied this reservoir.
