Quarry, Woola Plain. Extant. Granite. Opened for South Devon Railway construction. Building (smiths shop) now destroyed.
Visited March 1976. This is a moderate sized granite quarry above Shipley Bridge on the left bank of the River Avon. It is stated by William Crossing to have been opened in connection with the South Devon Railway construction. Crossing also describes a small building connected with the quarry as being a smith's shop. This building cannot now be found with certainty. The new road to the Avon Dam has disturbed the quarry entrance, but on the Royal Air Force high level aerial photograph (1946) the deep track into the quarry and a possible ruined building may be seen.
