Enclosure visible.

Gilmartin, M., 2023, Proposal for interpretation of a landscape feature near to Plymouth as a previously unidentified Roman fortlet (Un-published). SDV366032.

A broadly square, double-ditched enclosure is visible on LiDAR. It is c.104m wide north to south and c.95m west to east. There is also the suggestion of a broadly square inner area of c.35m by c.35m in the centre of the enclosure. The elements are suggestive of a possible Roman fortlet similar to those at Martinhoe and Old Burrow [Exmoor National Park].
The enclosure is located on the north side of a ridge, just off the highest point and overlooks a possible Roman road. (The east side of the enclosure, which extends to the south, is currently part of the HER record for the Roman Road north and east of Brownie Cross).
