Summary

A linear bank visible as an earthwork up to 19m wide and 340m long crossing the southwest facing slopes to the southwest of Witheridge village. The earthwork has been interpreted as a former road or track but an origin perhaps associated with modern utilities must be considered possible.

The visible earthwork does resemble the agger of a Roman road but the local topographic setting does not support an interpretation as the course of a route towards a crossing place on the Little Dart River. The earthwork does not correspond to any route depicted on the available historic maps, and a modern origin for this feature may be more likely.
