Edwards, M. + Trick, S., 2023, Land at Venn Farm, Sowton, Devon: An Archaeological Magnetometer Survey (Report - Geophysical Survey). SDV366098.

Substrata were commissioned by Cotswold Archaeology in 2023 to conduct an archaeological magnetometer survey of c. 19 hectares of land at Venn Farm on the outskirts of Exeter in Devon. Forty-one geophysical anomaly groups were detected of which all were interpreted as representing potential buried archaeological deposits.

The most common anomaly type detected were long positive linear anomalies, the majority of which are thought to represent the medieval or post-medieval field system. In area A, anomaly Groups 1, 2 and 16 are possibly former land boundaries. Group 2 is quite close to a boundary on the tithe map (1837) in the same orientation and so these may be reflective of a post-medieval field system. Alternatively they may be part of a system belonging to an earlier phase.
