Full description

Buck, C., 2006, Gawton Mine, Devon: Archaeological Assessment, 48 (Report - Assessment). SDV344672.

An Early Calciner site is located at SX 45186 68894. The possible calciner site is south and higher than the Furnace building (Site No. 45.3). The walls are less than half the height than when they were photographed in 1958 by Ordish and are nearly obscured by trees and brambles at the time of this survey. Fencing this site from the adjacent track into Gawton Quay appears to be the only long term management solution. Other details: Site No. 45.1.

Clive Meaton, 2023, Gawton Mine, Devon- Costed and Prioritised Proposals for Capital Works for the Conservation and Management of Gawton Mine Scheduled Monument (Redacted Costs Version), 110, Figure No.7 (Report - Survey). SDV366131.

An Early Calciner Site is located at SX 45186 68894 to the south of the Furnace House (Site No. 45.3). The comments recorded for Site of Oxland Calciner (Site No. 44) regarding the Early Calciner Site (Site No. 45.1) need to be noted as there are considered to be no upstanding remains of this structure, with descriptions instead relating to the Site of Oxland Calciner (Site No. 44). The location of the Early Calciner Site is based on the Site Plan Figure No. 7. Other details: Site No. 45.1.

Jon Avent, 2023, Gawton Mines, Gulworthy, Devon- Structural Condition Report (Report - Survey). SDV366140.
