Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

A field boundary is not depicted in this location on the circa 1840 tithe map or later historic Orndnace Survey maps.

Royal Air Force, 1946 - 1949, Royal Air Force Aerial Photographs (Aerial Photograph). SDV342938.

A northwest-southeast long linear crop mark is visible and may relate to a historic field boundary.

Jones, C., 2022, Land at Mosshayne Farm, Pinhoe, Devon, Phase 2: Evaluation (Report - Evaluation). SDV366370.

In May 2022, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation on land at Mosshayne Farm, Pinhoe, Devon.

A total of 21 trenches were excavated. The evaluation recorded a square Roman enclosure, possibly representing a small settlement or farmstead. Two possible internal ditches were noted. There was little evidence for significant activity outside of the enclosure, with the exceptions of a possible contemporary ditch running northwards and undated ditches and pits to the immediate south-west of the enclosure, one of which contained ironworking slag.

In the location of a historic boundary, a north/south aligned ditch 303 was recorded in Trench 3.

Historic England, 2025, National Heritage List for England 2025 (National Heritage List for England). SDV366287.
