Full description

Environment Agency, 2021, University of Exeter Understanding Landscapes Project - Lidar visualisation (Cartographic). SDV366001.

A curvilinear ditch is visible a slight earthwork on the south-west facing slopes of Bampfylde Hill.

Hegarty, C., 2025, Comment on Unlocking Landscapes project and related lidar and aerial photograph interpretations (Interpretation). SDV366411.

A curvilinear ditch is visible on images derived from lidar data as a slight earthwork on the south-west facing slopes of Bampfylde Hill, south of Honeywins Cross, North Molton. The earthwork is very slight and appears to have suffered moderate damage from ploughing, resulting in a somewhat diffuse boundary, but the ditch appears to measure between 8m and 12m wide, enclosing an oval area up to approximately 60m across, bisected by a modern field boundary. An irregularly shaped and similarly diffuse hollow up to 25m across is also visible within the possible enclosed area. The date of the possible enclosure is unknown, but it may be prehistoric in origin.

Horner, B., 2025, Lidar interpretation (Personal Comment). SDV366415.

Large circular ditched feature bisected by later boundary at SS724314.
