The visible earthwork hollows correspond in part with curvilinear boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Ottery St Mary.

Linear and curvilinear hollows are visible as earthworks on images derived from lidar, surrounding the village of Affington. The earthworks are most clearly visible to the east of the village and represent former field boundaries, previously part of an extensive strip field system, probably of medieval origin. Many correspond with curvilinear boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Ottery St Mary, but some do not, indicating that the field system was previously more extensive and had been partly cleared and combined into larger plots prior to the mid-19th century.
