Full description

Environment Agency, 2021, University of Exeter Understanding Landscapes Project - Lidar visualisation (Cartographic). SDV366001.

A terrace or platform is visible as a roughly circular earthwork under dense tree cover, landscaped into a knoll or outcrop to the north-east of Tracey House.

Hegarty, C., 2025, Comment on Unlocking Landscapes project and related lidar and aerial photograph interpretations (Interpretation). SDV366411.

A terrace or platform is visible on images derived from lidar data as a roughly circular earthwork approximately 34m in diameter, under dense tree cover approximately 250m west-north-west of Tracey House. The earthwork is landscaped into a natural knoll or outcrop that is enclosed within a circuit of rides and paths encompassing the grounds of Tracey House. A possible access path to the platform from the north-eastern loop visible at circa ST15390164, and it is probable that the platform is a designed landscape feature, part of the gardens associated with Tracey House. However, it must be considered possible that the terrace adapted an earlier feature.
A second curvilinear earthwork area to the west, centred on circa ST15230155, is probably a garden ride or walk and has not been recorded.

Horner, B., 2025, Lidar interpretation (Personal Comment). SDV366415.

Designed landscape features. Two circular features in woodland east of Tracey House. West one possibly just a circular woodland walk rather than designed. Eastern one looks like a substantial levelled platform on multiple visualisations of lidar from 2022.
