Full description

Environment Agency, 2021, University of Exeter Understanding Landscapes Project - Lidar visualisation (Cartographic). SDV366001.

Two concentric banks or terraces are visible as earthworks on images derived from lidar data on the east-facing spur to the east of Castle Cross, Membury.

Hegarty, C., 2025, Comment on Unlocking Landscapes project and related lidar and aerial photograph interpretations (Interpretation). SDV366411.

Two concentric banks or terraces are visible as earthworks on images derived from lidar data, defining a possible rectilinear enclosure surrounding the summit of an east-facing spur to the east of Castle Cross, Membury. The inner circuit defines a rectilinear area up to circa 90m across. The outer circuit is circa 150m across. No earthworks are visible defining the western side of the enclosure. It is possible that the apparent banks or terraces are geological in origin.

Horner, B., 2025, Lidar interpretation (Personal Comment). SDV366415.

Possible concentric earthworks in field on east side of Castle Cross.
