Curvilinear banks are visible as earthworks on images derived from lidar data captured in 2021 extending over circa 21hectares of the north-west facing slopes to the north-east of Checkridge Lane, Hawkchurch. The visible earthworks do not correspond to any boundaries depicted on the Ordnance Survey first edition map but do appear to respect and fall within the extant enclosure pattern. They are interpreted as the remains of a field system of probable medieval origin, that was partly cleared prior to the mid to late 19th century. The location of a possibly associated former farmstead is visible immediately to the north-east.
Horner, B., 2025, Lidar interpretation (Personal Comment). SDV366415.
