Hegarty, C., 2025, Comment on Unlocking Landscapes project and related lidar and aerial photograph interpretations (Interpretation). SDV366411.

A curvilinear bank approximately 8m wide is visible on images derived from lidar data as an earthwork on the south-east facing slopes of Afton Tor, Bery Pomeroy. It is interpreted as defining the western side of a possible curvilinear enclosure of later prehistoric origin on the south-east facing slopes of Afton Tor, Berry Pomeroy. The southern side of the possible enclosure may be fossilised within the extant field boundary, with the eastern end lost to possible quarrying activity.
Alternatively, the banks may be evidence of field boundary banks of medieval date. They do not correspond to any boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Berry Pomeroy, As such any historic boundaries had been removed prior to the mid-19th century.

Horner, B., 2025, Lidar interpretation (Personal Comment). SDV366415.

Traces of enclosures on Afton Tor.
