Hegarty, C., 2025, Comment on Unlocking Landscapes project and related lidar and aerial photograph interpretations (Interpretation). SDV366411.

A mound is visible on images derived from lidar data as a roughly circular earthwork approximately 27m in diameter, situated on a terrace to the west of Hazelwood Farm, Marldon. The mound is not depicted on the Tithe Map for Marldon or the Ordnance Survey first edition map. As stated by Horner, it is located within a plot (404) listed on the Tithe Apportionments as ‘Burrow’, adjacent to Burrow Orchard (plot 405). The earthwork and documentary evidence support an interpretation as the remains of a barrow of Bronze Age origin. No evidence of an enclosing ditch is visible as an earthwork on the lidar images.

Horner, B., 2025, Lidar interpretation (Personal Comment). SDV366415.

Probable barrow on LiDAR at SX859630. Tithe Map plot 404 containing the feature, is ‘Burrow’ and TM 405 is ‘Burrow Orchard’.
