Full description

Historic England, 2025, Arran Cottage, Bridford Road, Christow, Exeter (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV366446.

Notification that Arran Cottage is being considered for addition to The National Heritage List for England. Historic England have undertaken an assessment of the property in order to consider whether it has special architectural or historic interest.
Arran Cottage has its origins as an agricultural building, probably built in the late C18 or early C19, adjacent to a farmhouse (Sea Hill). It is shown on the 1840s Tithe Map. Later Ordnance Survey maps indicate that by the late C19 it had been rebuilt on a different building line. Part of the north end was incorporated into Sea Hill with a passage between the two buildings. The north end of Arran Cottage was converted to accommodation, presumably for use by Sea Hill, and a granite inglenook and stack inserted. The south end remained in agricultural use until the late C20.
The passage between the two was sealed by the mid C20 and Arran Cottage became a separate residence.
See report for full details.
