Visited in May 1978. The quarry itself is deep with water lying in part of it. There are some pieces of walling inside the quarry which may represent workmens huts or may have housed machinery which there is no trace of now. The owner of the site has always heard that the highest dwelling in the hamlet of Beneknowle was at one time three workmens cottages. This may have been for quarry workers, although he is not sure. In the mid 19th century two other quarries, Wonton Hill Copse and Lincombe, are known to have been commercial undertakings.
