Laithwaite, M., 1973, Houses in Seaton and neighbourhood (Un-published). SDV366950.
Site visit 11th Agusut 1973. Tudor Cottage appears to be a two storeyed house perhaps of late 16th century date built on a two room, cross passage plan. However, if one end has been demolished, as seems possible from the position of the roof truss at that end of of the building, there may have been a third inner room or parlour.
The late 16th century date is based on the stud and panel screen between the cross passage and the 'hall' which combines diagonal cut stops on the studs (usually considered pre 1550) with an ovolo mould (usually considered late 16th or 17th century) on the top rail. The axial stack may be a later addition. However, should smoke blackening be discovered on the roof timbers then this could alter the dating completely.
