Full description

Gooseford, Higher, Middle and Lower.
There is no exact location for Lower Gooseford. It may now be the farm of West Gooseford. Lega-weekes described Lower Gooseford as having been rebuilt. It was a small stone house, oak framed and with mullioned windows, thatched roof, gabled porch with pointed arch of moulded granite. It retained a heavy nail-studded oak door, above which was a tablet dated 1641, and a mullioned window. Gooseford was mentioned by Polwhele, c.1797, as being one of the three manors of South Tawton.

Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1932, The Place-Names of Devon: Part Two, 451 (Monograph). SDV337894.

Gooseford is recorded as 'Goseford' in 1249, 1254.
