Middle Washbourne Farm, Halwell. The probable site of the manor of Washbourne Walter, which either became separated from the Domesday manor of Waseborna, or had formerly been included in the manor of Aisbertona, now Ashprington. Some 13th and 14th century descents are given.

Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1931, The Place-Names of Devon: Part One, 324 (Monograph). SDV1312.

There were three medieval manors of Washbourne. One was held by Richard Baucan in 1238, another by Walter in 1303 & the third was held by the family which held the manor of Dorsely in 1242. Washbourne was mentioned as 'Waseborna' in 1086, 'Wasseburn' in 1238 & in 1303 the names 'Wassheborn Water', 'Wassheborn Durant' & 'Wasshborn Bauzan' may represent the three manors. Middle Washbourne was probably the manor of Wassheborn Walter'.
