Dunstone is mentioned throughout the middle ages in various documents with different spellings. It could mean 'dunstan's farm', however, nearby is a dunstone rock, so that the name may really be 'farm by the dunstan or hill-rock' or 'by the grey rock' (gover + mawer + stenton).
