This may be the site of Chope Mill which is mentioned in various 15th century rentals and leases.

An 18th century mill used for grinding clothworker's shears stands near where the Great Western Railway now crosses the Tavy. Originally a tan mill driven by water from the millbrook by means of a dam or sluice which provided a channel of water flowing past the millpond into the river. The pool was called Drake's Pool after William Drake who built the tan mill.
