Hampson is a medieval settlement, formerly known as Hermer's Nymet.

Hampson is mentioned as 'Hermaneston' in 1244, 'Hermanyston' in 1333, 'Hermeston' in 1346 & 'Harmiston' in 1421. It may not be the Manor held by Hermer in 1086.
