Summary

Thorne farm, ottery st. Mary. The site of a medieval farmstead held with its adjunct cobthorne, or cobbaton. Held by earl of devon in early 15th century. In 1480 granted by the crown to lord dynham. Reverted to the manor sometime before 1508 (rose-troup). Described by the author as a former mansion (hoskins). Thorne, a substantial country house of the coke family, dating from the 17th century (coate).
