'East Sherford' farmstead is shown on 19th century map as a large group of buildings surrounded by orchards with a sub-circular enclosure to the west.

East and West Sherford are the probable approximate site of a medieval estate recorded in the Domesday survey as 'Sirefort'. As early as medieval times it was held in two parts. The history of its post-Domesday possession down to the dissolution is given.
