Full description
1749, Map of Alphington (Record Office Collection). SDV366890.
The name 'Marsh House' is indicated on a map of Alphinton of 1749. The map was created to highlight a trackway across the triangular field to the north leading towards a building called Marsh Barn, which was in dispute.

James Coffin, who acquired the priory site in 1546, either built a mansion at Marsh Barton, or converted the priory into a residence. In 1562, it was sold to J. Hoker.

Farmstead marked as 'Marsh Barton on site of St. Mary's Priory (Austin Canons). The farmstead is shown as comprising a long, linear yard orientated north-south with a noticeable kink in the middle. To the east is the farmhouse with a garden/yard to the east. To the north are two yards. The farmstead is surrounded by an orchard on the west, south and east sides.

Site visit 6th July 1953. A very ordinary and somewhat dilapidated farmhouse. Close by is a newly constructed trading estate. It seems likely that the farm will give way to new buildings. No additional information re site of priory ascertained. By 1957, Marsh Barton had been demolished.
