Palace Quarry, Chudleigh. A source of very pure stone, yielding a high percentage of lime when burnt - its principal use until recently. It has also been quarried for building stone since medieval times and can be seen in the remains of the Bishop's Palace nearby, from which it takes its name. The stone is now mainly quarried for road material.
